The London Press Club has been running the annual press ball for the past four years and so far has raised nearly £200,000 for the Journalists Charity. The ball is a glittering upmarket event attended by chief executives, editors, journalists and television presenters and programme makers from the major national newspapers and TV companies.

 

It has been held in the Great Hall of the Natural History Museum with a high profile presenter such as Jeremy Vine, Katie Derham, Mary Nightingale as host to 450 guests. BBC presenter and journalist Kate Silverton will be hosting the event this year at The Brewery, Chiswell Street, London EC1. Charity auctioneers have previously included Nicholas Bonham, Christopher Biggins, Hugh Edmeades of Christies South Kensington and Lord Dalmeny of Sothebys.

 

Although the main purpose of the ball is to raise money for the Journalists’ Charity, which runs two care homes in Dorking, Surrey and helps journalists from across the media who have fallen upon hard times, it is also held to raise the profile of the London Press Club and to enable it to continue its work hosting journalistic events and running its prestigious annual awards.

 

The ball has been a lavish affair with a superb dinner and wines, beautiful floral arrangements and exciting entertainment. It has become one of the most important social events of the year for journalists and is exceptionally well attended.
